Who are you laughing at, or The Government Inspector in Krakow

Those who like to crawl with laughter in the theatre – cannot miss the December treat. Gogol’s “The Government Inspector” with the participation of Tomasz Karolak – the only performance in Krakow, on Wednesday, December 11, only during the Divine Comedy.

On Polish stages there has probably never been “The Government Inspector” like the one prepared by director Łukasz Kos. The cast of the play includes six actors – among them Krystyna Tkacz, Joanna Niemirska, Tomasz Karolak and the director himself – meanwhile there are over twenty characters in “The Government Inspector”. The result? Actors play several roles, usually male and female, changing their stage appearances in a few seconds in front of the audience. This gives a chance for crazy fun with theatrical conventions, and the daring pace makes actors’ wigs fall off and fake mustaches peel off.

However, this does not interfere in any way, what is more, “The Inspector General” from the Imka Theatre turns out to be a praise of theatre in its purest form. It shows how important and cleansing for the audience is the element of unfettered fun in the theatre. Today, when we hear the rumblings of war just beyond our borders, and the previous world order is falling out of frame before our eyes, we need an escape into laughter.

“Who are you laughing at? You are laughing at yourselves” – everything comes together to create the most classic of classic comedies of all times. Tickets are still available at boskakomedia.pl.

Performance:
December 11, 7:00 p.m., Nowa Huta Cultural Centre
