A graduation performance by students of the Bytom Department of Dance Theatre at the Kraków AST. We will present their work to the audience of our festival with great satisfaction. Work On It! is more than just a demonstration of individual and ensemble dance and vocal skills of these young artists.
Making use of excerpts from William Shakespeare’s King Lear and The Taming of the Shrew the play makes a bow towards the “self-theatre” aesthetic, by definition playing with elements of students’ private lives to tell a broader story of fears and apprehensions bound with grappling with one’s identity. Truth and deception, experience and fantasy, movement and stillness in tertwine into an inseparable whole.
“The play doesn’t pretend to have any other purpose than to close the school chapter in the dancers’ lives simultaneously starting a completely new stage in their lives: an unde fined one,” the play’s creative team explain. Since its premiere in Bytom in March, Work On It! has been warmly welcomed by young audiences, as it finds with them a unique, extraverbal connection.
