Performative reading (Belarusian with Polish subtitles) of Sławomir Mrożek 1958 debut drama “The Police” performed by the Independent Theatre Group Kupałowcy and directed by Przemysław Wyszyński.
The action takes place in an abstract state whose foundations are shaken by the last political prisoner’s declaration of loyalty to the state. The text will be presented by artists from the Independent Theatre Group Kupałowcy, formerly associated with the Janka Kupala National Theatre in Minsk, Belarus, the oldest theatre staging performances in Belarusian. Following the end of their cooperation with the artists, technical and administrative staff created the Independent Theatre Group Kupałowcy, adapting their activities to the online format. Thanks to regular YouTube activity, they managed to broaden the group’s audience. The viewers are able to learn getting to know Belarusian culture and language through the groups’ videos and streaming. The performative reading is the result of an artistic residency organized by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute and the Polish Theatre in Warsaw.
