— I’ve prepared two different speeches, Dad,
so you can choose. One is green, and the other is yellow.
— Let it be the green one…
This moment changes everything.
Christian, one of the participants of the titular celebration, delivers a jubilee speech in honour of his father. This is how the ritual of confrontation begins. The celebration turns into a ceremony to which guilt, sins and demons of the past are invited. Toasts intertwine with accusations, laughter with dread, and family secrets surface with all their brutality.
Will the guilty face consequences? In this world of inverted images and distorted meanings, we must give voice to the stories that have never been told. We must ask who we become when, for years, we function within lies and half-truths.
The Celebration asks whether truth offers any solace at all — and to whom. Is it the victims who are soothed, or perhaps the perpetrators? What happened to our decency? When did what is “moral” and “ethical” become so devalued? To resist, to cry out, to fight for cleansing, for truth — even at the cost of losing one’s family. But if the primary bond within a family is a lie, was it ever truly a family?
We will never know how the dinner would have unfolded had the jubilarian chosen the yellow speech…
But does it matter at all?
