The inspiration for the libretto of that mini theatre-opera form directed by Dominika Przybyszewska was an excerpt from Alessandro Baricco’s Omero. Iliade. The last meeting of Hector and Andromache in the atmosphere of chronic hostilities, pending doom, and unfavourable fate provides the background for a broad insight into war through the perspective of an intimate relation between two people. What we see in the lives of the two protagonists of The Iliad is primarily the growing trauma of the roles assigned to them: that of a body identifying itself as a female and one identifying itself as a male. The singer is simultaneously the narrator and witness of the tale. Translation of the Homeric tale into the exalted language of the contemporary opera creates a particular and disturbing variety of a new song of war.
